To say that Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya  popularly known as ’MC Oluomo’ is one of the well-known leaders of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW)  is to say the least. In fact, except for those who are familiar with the system, trend and happenings in the famous transport organisation, the belief by many is that MC Oluomo is either the president of the union or chairman of the Lagos State council.

The fact is that he is neither the union’s president nor the chairman of the Lagos State Council’;  Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya is just the Lagos State Treasurer of the Council  and  Chairman of  Oshodi Branch ‘’A’. But it is needless to say that the sobriquet, ‘Oluomo of Oshodi’ has become synonymous with NURTW nationwide. His popularity has soared so high that he has become a god-father to some famous Nigerianartists (especially those of Yoruba genre) who normally sing- praise his generousity to the high heavens during live performances and in their albums. As a result of his great influence among his colleagues, and his enviable fame in the social cycle in Lagos State, he has become the toast of many political big wigs in the state and beyond as they have identified him as an indispensable chief mobilising officer during electioneering periods.

Remarkably, Oluomo has over the years pledged his unalloyed allegiance to the ruling party in Lagos State owing to his great respect and admiration for APC National Leader, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He said this to one of our reporters some years ago in response to the question he was asked about his relationship with Tinubu, ‘’ I count it a very great privilege to be a god-son to my father, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Don’t say that again. I am not his associate. I am too small to be that. He has just shown me mercy by making me his son. Wherever he asks us to go, there we shall always go’’.

Also recently, he was reported to have told a very close associate of his in Ilorin  after the Osun gubernatorial election that he would never deny APC and that no matter the threats from anybody he would remain loyal and committed to the cause of the party.   No wonder, on several occasions, he has consorted and had photographs with leaders of the party in the South West publically.

Consequently, his growingpopularity and unabated influence among the Lagos big boys was the actual reason why his sworn foes were unrepentantly determined to brutally end his life in the broad day light on the 8th of January this year at the Sky power Ground in Ikeja without any regard for the presence of the state governor and all the state security apparatuses!

According to one of the NURTW big wigs in Lagos State who pleaded anonymity to our correspondent, Oluomo’s soaring fame in the society is not going down well with many of his colleagues in the union.  They consider him a great threat that will scuttle their ambition and relevance in NURTW.

’’Oluomo is not in the good books of many of the desperate NURTW leaders in the state owing to the way he is being loved, recognised and revered by members of the public; most especially the entertainers who have turned him to crucial topic during their shows. To add salt to injury, the special favour he seems to be enjoying before Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu and other APC leaders in the South West has further incensed their grievances. You see, these people thought Oluomo fell out with Tinubu sometimes ago. They were very happy then and concluded that it was all over for him. But to their total dismay, Musiliu’s relationship with Jagaban rather than being weakened is growing stronger.  Let me just keep quiet now before you misquote me; if you care to know the truth, some people have paid ransom on Oluomo, they want to see him dead; only God can save him from their hands’’ he concluded.

Apart from the factor highlighted above, another thing we gather to be responsible for Oluomo’s current travails is his age- long ambition to become the chairman of NURTW in Lagos State. This has really set him on a collusion cause with other leaders who are desperately nursing the same ambition. It was exclusively gathered that he played a prominent role during the emergence of Alhaji Akann Rafiu Olohunwa as the chairman of the state council some years ago and there was an unwritten agreement between them that the later would succeed the former in office. However, Olohunwa quickly had serious issues with some NURTW leaders in the state including MC and  every agreement became null and void. Musiliu’s foes capitalised on the broken relationship between the duo to write many malicious reports against MC which forced the national leadership of the union led by Alhaji Najeem Yasin to  place him on suspension for sometimes. He was later restored to still retain his position as the state treasurer of the union after he was cleared of all charges against him by the national body.

As a loyal union’s officer, he abided by the decision of the national leadership of the union to make Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede the chairman of the council in Lagos State after Olohunwa was shown the way out of the union. He equally threw his weight behind the new man. Despite the alleged break down in their relationship, both leaders have displayed affection and great camaraderie in the public to the surprise  of their overzealous supporters who are always expecting open confrontation between them. Oluomo  has always at different occasions kowtowed and bowed before his boss to prove to these supporters that there is no mixed feeling or rivalry between them. Also,Oluomo and Agbede have severally appealed to members of the state union to embrace peace and unity which Alhaji Najeem Usman Yasin as the president of the union has made the bedrock of his administration.

The bottom line now is that now that Agbede’s tenure as Lagos State Chairman of NURTW is winding up, and having tried so many methods to bring him to his knees in the past without any notable success. Rather, just like the proverbial cat with nine lives, he seems to know how to wriggle his way out of every trap set up for him.The trepidations of his rivals have now become heightened and their bitingconviction is that with the swelling relevance of Oluomo in the political arena in the state and beyond, nothing is going to stop him from succeeding Agbede as the next NURTW chairman in Lagos State. Thus, they decided to go physical once more by stabbing him with what many referred to asvoodoo knife ’’Obe Makanje’’ during the APC flag off ceremony in Ikeja, Lagos.

Reports had it that this would not be the first time that his rivals had attempted to snuff life out of him in the public. In August 2015, before the commencement of the National Delegate Conference of the union in Abuja, Oluomo was physically humiliated by some hired NURTW hoodlums from Lagos who splashed on him sachets of pure water. It really took the intervention of the peace-loving NURTW President, Alhaji Usman Yasin before his life was spared. He had evidently received many threats to his life to jettison his ambition to succeed Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede.

Another tactic his adversary has employed to bring him down is to keep discrediting him as a political thug and a notorious murderer before the public. A lot of trump-up charges has come his way, he was alleged to have hands in the death of one NURTW leader in Lagos State called ‘ Rasaq’Hamburger’’ last year. Prior to then,Oluomo was accused of causing the death of one Oshodi’s big boy, ‘ Esi Oluwo’ sometimes ago during a political meeting in the local government. However, all these charges brought against could not been concretely proved before beyond the realm of hearsay and rumour since he has always received a clean bill of health before the Nigerian Police after interrogations.

In swift reaction to this, an APC stalwart in Alimosho Local Government who also spoke to us on condition of anonymity quickly dismissed these allegations as the mischievous and devious designs of MC foes to bring him down at all cost. He said Oluomo is just nothing but a vibrant and hardworking NURTW leader who is regarded as a great philanthropist by the religious bodies and entertainment industry in the nation.

‘You see, I know the president of NURTW, Alhaji Najeem Yasin very well due to my profession as a security expert. He is a peace- loving leader who has done a lot to reform members of the union. NURTW is changing for good. When last before the ugly and unfortunate incident at Ikeja did you hear of acts of thuggery in the union?  I know that no matter how much a leader tries to transform his people from bad to good, some bad elements will still be frustrating him. Alhaji Yasin should not give up on his good works because of this backward act.  Again, I have taken time to study MC Oluomo and analysed his personality, I honestly see a young mam that has been toughened by the many adversities he has gone through in life. He is very nice and harmless when you get closer to him. He may be no-nonsense and vibrant in nature. But that guy cannot kill another human being. I think some people are just jealous of his relationship with Asiwaju. And let this be clear to all, Asiwaju as a great political leader, loves all his followers and admirers equally. Contrary to what the detractors are saying, Oluomo is not a Tinubu’s thug, he is only enjoying Tinubu’s favour just like many other people. Asiwaju does not breed thugs to hunt down opponents. I advise you journalists to always investigate a story before writing or publishing it’’

With the recent development, it is now evident that his foes will stop at nothing to terminate Oluomo’’s life if nothing decisive is done on time by the ever reliable Nigeria Police in Laagos State to bring them to book.
